Sorry, Power Company is being funny.

So a couple of months ago they swapped our power meters with these new computer controlled ones. It's suppose to save them man power because they not longer have to send people out to read the meter. Also they can now get information from the meters and control the meters from the main office....which is our problem.

So yesterday we lost power for a few hours because of some crazy person working up the street...not a problem they got it fixed.

Then today we lose power, here is the conversation with the power company.

PC: Hello, may i help you

ME: Yes it seems my power is off, and I want to know why.

PC: Can I have the service address please.

ME: Sure, its ***********

PC: Okay one moment let me look at a few things here.

ME: Sure no problem

PC: Okay well are you sure the power is off, the meter says it's on.

ME: Yes I'm standing in my kitchen and there is no power.

PC: Okay well one moment. Oh okay here we go, the meter control system says your service has been turned off for non payment.

ME: Um I payed the bill last week.

PC: One moment.....yes I see that payment here....and the payment system says everything is okay....this is strange, one moment.

ME: Sure

PC: Okay I sent a reset to the meter so your power should be back on now.

ME: Nope, still no power.

PC: Are you sure, the meter says it reset fine and that the power is on.

ME: Would you like me to take a picture and send it to you.

PC: No that's fine I believe you. Let me put you on hold while I go talk to a supervisor.

ME: Sure

5 minutes later

PC: So I talked to a supervisor and she tells me everything is fine now and your power is back on.

ME: Well the lights don't work and everything is off, so if the power is on, It's not going into the house.

PC: Really, well can you check the breakers...

ME: Sure, one moment....okay all of the breakers are on but to be safe I just flipped them all, including the main.

PC: Okay so you should be fine now.

ME: Um nope, still no power.

PC: Well this makes no sense, one second let me open a trouble ticket.....um okay so the trouble ticket system will not let me open a ticket because your power was cut off for non-payment, so we'll need to take care of that first.

ME: um do you remember 15 minutes ago when we noted that the payment was made over a week ago and had posted to the account like 8 days ago.

PC: Oh yes that's correct, let me see if I can find out why half of our systems think you didn't pay your bill. One moment.

ME: Sure, not like I can do anything else.

PC: Okay so I talked to engineering and they are saying the system cut the power off for non-payment.

ME: Um your kidding right, did you tell them they are full of crap or do you need me to.

PC: Let me call them back, one moment.

ME: Sigh

PC: Okay engineering is going to reset your service, on moment.

ME: sure, I'll try to not hold my breath.

PC: Okay they say the reset was good and the meter says you now have power, is there anything else I can help you with.

ME: Sure can you get my power back on because it's still off.

PC: Are you sure?

ME: Do you want to come over here and look for yourself?

PC: no that's okay, one moment let me call engineering.

ME: okay.

PC: Okay I talked to engineering and they tell me it's because of non-payment.

ME: Do you guys even need a GED to work there?

PC: Sir that's not very nice

ME: Really, and have we not already, several times in fact, found that payment had NOTHING to do with the issue.

PC: Yes sure you are correct, let me call down there again.

ME: Tell you what, I know the guy who runs the engineering department, why don't I put you on hold and call him myself, one moment.

PC: Sir?

ME: 'flash over, call new number'

ES: Engineering, this is ******

ME: Hey man, it's Terry hows it going?

ES: hey dude, going good, hey we still on for lunch next week.

ME: Sure but while I've got you on the phone can you check something for me.

ES: Sure, what's up

ME: Seems my power is off and no one can figure out why.

ES: Let me look, hang on.....hum says you forgot to make a payment.

ME: Nope, made it over a week ago.

ES: Hang on let me look.....yep you did so why did it cut you off....one sec let me get on the meter and look at the logs.

ME: Sure

ES: Okay here we go, someone from our office issued a disconnect at 11:30...let me call them and ask why.

ME: Sure

ES: Okay seems they thought they were in training mode and they were not. Sorry dude some of the people here should have been screened better. I corrected the issue and send a reset order, you should have power in oh 5 seconds.

ME: Yep there they go. Dude your customer service department sucks.

ES: Hey that's why I'm in engineering. Sorry about that. If this happens again just call me and not them and I'll get it taken care of.

ME: Thanks dude, see you next week.


Sigh, I hate government run utilities.

Good grief!! That is nuts. Just glad I don't have your electric company. :)

Actually, I cant imagine a company would turn off power after week of not paying. I would have just thought they would add a late fee charge for the next month. I hope my power company does not get bought out by yours! :)

So uhm they really allow people who have short term memory loss and no brain cells beyond those needed to keeping them breathing in Customer Support ?

I thought they were an Urban Legend !
