The Greater Goddess Valshar - No Longer a Goddess

Post by terryrayc » Wed Aug 16, 2006 7:24 pm

~Former Background~

Alignment: NE
Followers Alignment: TN, LE, (NE), CE
Mantle: Sorrow and Loss
Symbol: a Crying Eye
Colours: Black as main colour, gold as secondary

Valshar, the daughter of Helthor, is an elusive and mysterious goddess who rarely makes herself openly known. She is the goddess of sorrow and loss and engrosses herself in the grief and despair of mortals. Unlike her father Helthor, she does not usually take an active role in causing sorrow. Instead, she follows the grief-stricken around, haunting them with mournful cries in the night and constant reminders of their loss. Most of those who come to worship her are victims whom she has caused to lose all hope and happiness and know only despair. Like her father, she preys on those who may be weak-willed or do not have the strength of another god to guide them. Many of her worshipers and victims die of their grief, only to join their mistress in eternal sorrow.

Many do not believe Valshar to exist at all. In small Halfling communities, for example, she is often spoken about in 'ghost stories' and tales to frighten children. Others suspect she is a wandering soul, mourning a lover that never returned. There is still much uncertainty about her true nature yet she has inspired many a bards' songs and stories.

~Current Background~

Valshar

Influence Greater
Alignment Neutral Evil
Sphere Deceit, Sorrow and Loss (Murder on an alias)
Colors White, Black as secondary
Symbol A Crying Eye
Favored Weapon Dagger

Long has Valshar stayed in the background, scoffed as a ghost story by some, a goddess of inconsequence by others. So far into the background she was, even her father thought of her as one who lacks ambition. That, as well as being the dutiful daughter to Helthor, she has long earned her father's trust, much to his demise.

Behind the facade of the lack of ambition, unassuming and silent goddess, lay one who was exceedingly cunning and ambitious. Through the fortune of obtaining a Sphere off Annihilation, she plotted to seize power from her Father. In the year 2154, Valshar set a trap for her father on her home plane, lured him to her, and attempted to murder him. She sought to steal the Sphere of Death. However, despite all her cunning, she underestimated Helthor's strength on her home plane. Helthor managed to banish the Sphere of Annihilation before the full impact struck him. Valshar merely acquired a portion of the Sphere of death, which became the Sphere of Murder. The remaining essence of the Sphere of Death and Helthor hurtled down as a meteor onto the mortal planes

Even on the mortal planes, Valshar had her followers hunt Helthor down to seize the rest of the Sphere of Death. Ultimately, a group adventurers stopped Helthor, and through her miscalculations, the Sphere of Death elevated Thessala as the new goddess of Death.

Upon the death of Helthor on the mortal plane, Valshar began to secretly answer the prayers Helthor's followers. In time, she revealed the truth amongst some of Helthor's followers - Those she deemed worthy of cunning and deception. Those who do not fear loss to gain great power and those who would sow sorrow and discontent.

For her patience and the deception played upon Helthor, she was given the Sphere of Deceit.

Upon receiving the Sphere of Deceit, her primary colour is now White (secondary black) - a mockery to how a world who once barely knew she exist, the "just" and "good" who would despise her for her very actions if they had known what they were, -nearly- all would pay homage to her... even if all they told was just a white lie.

Church:
The Church of Valshar took claim for the weakening of the Church of Helthor.

She often has shrines for those to experience loss to wallow in their sorrows.

However, that is merely the public face of the church. Underneath it all, there lay the undergound Church of Valshar - who seek to sow discontent, sorrow and loss. They often seek to attain high positions politically, or are masters of assasination.

Even amongst the Church of Valshar, only truly those favoured by the goddess would know Valshar wears the mask of the dead god Halthor. Such knowledge comes with a geas by the goddess herself, that should they ever leave the Church of Valshar, or betray the goddess, their memory of knowledge would be lost. ((Valsharian [ALL] Players start without the knowledge of the Helthor deceit))

Valsharians pride cunning over brute strength, however, they are not one to shy away from a confrontation if need be.

With the events that occurred when Jarmanis ascended to godhood, the goddess known as Valshar had her mantle of godhood stripped from her. This was done by Jarmanis with an artifact known as the Godhand, and aided by three persons: Ronan Ceril, Miranda Rose, and Raven. When Valshar was stripped of her mantle, she became mortal, and is now lost to time and history... or is she?

Valshar was also the Divine Sponsor for Arkazian Blackguards. After the fall the Blackguards lost their Divine abilities, but recently they have returned. No one has yet learned who the new sponsor of the Blackguards is.

Leaving the entry for Historical records, and teasers for future plots and events.
