Familiar Questions

This question pertains to Familiars, not well known questions!

I have seen the Avlis thread on familiars and was wondering if they are handled differently here of if I should stick to those guidelines. I have questions such as:

1) Is possession of a familiar IC?

2) Ability to communicate with familiar; how is this handled on Arkaz in the case of non-speaking famliars? Empathetic emotions? Ability to speak to each other (but not to others)? Nothing at all?

3) If there are empathetic emotions/communication that a familiar is allowed to use (as per #2), can they use them to communicate with their master only while in close proximity, or will it work if the master is a few rooms away?

4) Does the familiar have some sense of which direction the master is in if the master is not within sight? Does the master have some sense of which direction the familiar is in if the familiar is not within sight?

Lastly, why does my familiar appear on my characters played list on the player website?

Sorry to be a bother, but was a final decision on any part of these questions reached, even if they are not all answered as a whole? I would like to abuse...er I mean use...my familiar properly.

I'd like to know the answer too. For the record, this is how I manage Habibi, Noor's pseudo dragon familiar:

1. Habibi cannot speak Common but seems to understand quite a bit. He does not understand complex commands.

2. From a game engine standpoint, player/mllw uses the possession option to have Habibi interact with others.

3. I have RPd Noor possessing Habibi as well. ("Eyes glaze over, etc.")

IMHO, I think all of this makes sense from an RP standpoint. However, if a choice on the possession must be made, I would vote for being able to have the player use the possession option to allow the familiar to interact with others. I have FAR more fun with RPing Habibi than Noor possessing Habibi! Certainly gives the familiars personality.

1) You can ooc'ly possess your familiar and have them interact with others as the familiar doing it ic. yes you can also Possess the familiar ic'ly, taking over total control over it to spy out an area or whatever.

2) For animals incapable of speaking common then only thourgh the empathic bond binding the creature to it's master can they communicate. for creatures with the ability to speak common they can communicate with others. Possession your familiar ic does not grant you the ability to speak that creatures language. i.e. you cannot possess your bat and speak animal.

3) Normal speaking is the same as being able to hear ig. For the empathic bond up to 5 leagues (screens) away.

4) The master and familiar always know in what direction the other is in, as long as they are on the same plane.
