Crafting Suggestions

Post by Daemona » Tue Jun 23, 2009 5:52 pm

Indirectly it has come to my attention people want to see changes in crafting. So I put forth both a poll and an open forum for what the players would like to see. The poll is for the system but the rest is what you, as the players would like to see. Lets make it easy and start with alchemy and herbalism.

What potions would you like to see?

Inflict (light wounds, moderate wounds, etc) potions. Yes there is a use for them.
Scribing inks! I kinda presume this would be a alchemy thing, not a scrollcraft thing.

I'm not all that heavy of a crafter though and don't know all of what's currently available. I loved the pelar's tonics on Avlis (one with the land) for druids and rangers; do we have an equivalent?

I believe we have the full Avlis pallet for potions and the like. If it is in there it would need to be added to our crafting pallet, to my understanding. So if you know what it is called on Avlis I want to hear it.

Funny you mentioned the potions for the oppisite of healing. Little Dae has a potion that does something similar. It casts harm on the user.

It's just called Pelar's Tonic.

It should probably have a different name and description though, since Pelar is a foreign god.

I feel that the most important are the healing potions. All the way up to full heals. Next would be defensive things like Death's Sentinels, elemental protections, granite concoctions and the like. Then buffing and assorted. That has always seemed to be the order of demand (waaay back in my avlis days when Thomas made his living as an alchemist). As for the xp....it never really made sense to me to get character xp from crafting anyway...as the things you make get more complex you usually gain that in the procuring of materials lol .

I selected to leave it as is. Understably though I'm only familiar with the Scroll crafting, stone cutting and woodcrafting. On all those three, I always found the exp cost to exp gain (for scrolls) was pretty good, and the stonecutting and woodcrafting was very workable and not time consuming for the amount of crafting exp.

I'm not really familiar with the herbalism, alchemy or clothcrafting so much as I can only make +1 heal kits as of yet.

I'd like to see a use for the apple juice. As it stands now, it just takes up space in the chests. If there is one, then it is at a higher level than most people who start out learning. Not sure about Avlis, but on Hala it is a +1 or +2 hit point cure potion that is perfect for newbie characters.

I haven't explored much with the Arkaz crafting system as much as I have the Hala one. I hope to learn more soon.

+1

In general, we need crafting to be more attractive on Arkaz. We still have characters HAVING TO LEAVE Arkaz to pick up better potions and items. While I agree that not all better items should be craftable, the potions certainly should be! (And it wouldn't hurt to have more of the better craftables for other items too.)

A few answers for the current questions:

We do have the full range of healing and attribute potions currently. There are a few protective ones as well as in the Concoction of Granite, Death Sentinal and and maybe some others. Unfortunately I have no idea what some of them do as I never made them once becoming Crafting Master.

Apple Juice is currently used in several of the potions but offers nothing itself. Sonja has traveled to Avlis just to make it actually because it stacks to 30 there. By the same right Glowmoss Distillate stacks here and not on Avlis, kind of a tradeoff for the most part. I have no access to the DB so I have no idea how difficult it would be to change names while retaining the properties of an item.

I always disliked some of the time required to do some crafting and have started to reduce crafting time on items since I first posted here. I can only control the time however on crafted goods. Scroll crafting is completely out of my control as it is scripted differently. Sonja went to make sheets of linen the other day and she literally stood at that device for a full 45 RL minutes.

I have also changed one of the items needed to make a heal potions so off world travel for it is no longer required.

MllW brings up an interesting question. Do people travel off world because the items do not exist of they cannot make them yet.

Honestly, I think alot of Arkaz's crafting ills would be lessened if we had a few persistant merchants. Even if we just had a couple of "sever owned" ones in strategic locations, it would give people a place to buy and sell the materials they need to really do crafting on a useful scale.
