Is it possible to have racial abilities grow in power as the character grows? For example linking a tiefling's ability to create darkness to their level.

Racial abilities are like racial stat bonuses in that they never grow with power over time-you get that single bonus upon character creation, and that's it. That said, it couldn't hurt to ask for this as a plot reward in the future, or to make it a DM Token Request.
