Learning languages

Hi, so... I've been experimenting Abit with the language system. (Neat, by the way! Didn't have it a decade ago!). And wondering, can characters learn new languages? Also, how are starting languages determined? Race and class? I'm only really familiar with PnP rules. Einar doesn't have Gnomish for instance, and apparently, Erin doesn't have Elven. (We've Incorporated this into our histories, so no need to fix.)

Not the end of the world, but, we are curious.

Also curious: the in game note system and book binding!
:D

Some languages are class specific like Thieve's Cant and Animal. Others are race related like Dwarven or Elven. To my knowledge in order to learn a language that isn't your "native" tongue, you have to find a PC teacher (or in some cases an NPC) to teach a language you normally would not have. The language sessions should be taught over a period of time and can be documented either as "reports" sent to the DMs or in forum posts. You should obtain DM permission for this however so that it can be documented in your character file (no not watchlist) so we can keep track of your progress, rewards and other fun and nifty stuff. :D

About what I figured. :)

Just curious why Erin (a sun elf) and Einar (a "Stone Dwarf" or Dwarf/Gnome hybrid) didn't start with Elven, and Gnomish, respectively. Not a big deal for us, (our racial identities are more like "closest equivalents") but might be for other characters.

Otherwise, definitely will look into the possibilities!

They should have. I think it is a "glitch" in the custom character creator.

Yeah. Also, the wiki says stone dwarves use gnome models. But... Think I got a dwarf? (Einar did come with dwarven.)

Edit: As far as I'm concerned, it would have been fine if Einar didn't even start with Common, lol.

(Made "Firma" explicitly not strongly connected to the local cosmology, to reduce impetus towards "Way Firma Works," = "Way everything must work.'' but, that would also mean little Contact, and so little language similarity.)
