We just had to rave about this DM encounter. It was just too cool not to share.
So ... there I was death plained and Thomas reads a raise dead scroll... and there I was a ghost, with my corpse lying solid below my floating body.
Thanks to "Dunge Onmaster" it was the most hysterical thing we could have imagined happening to us. For those of you that know us, you'll realize this "discussion" sounds familiar as some version of things you've heard in real life. For those that don't know us, well we hope you find it as entertaining as we did.
Willow and Thomas meet up with some bad guys and....
Willow --> You slip closer to death.
((insert Thomas and Malame (cat) fighting bad guys to the death))
Willow Riverbend: ugh!
Your soul is beeing ripped apart from your body.
((list of lost items...wow I have a lot of stuff))
((Thomas casts raise dead))
Thomas Drakkonn: oh thank ......waht the?

Willow Riverbend: you're the know it all about undead.. are you sure that it can't get worse? I can think of plenty of things that could be worse.

Thomas Drakkonn: so I know it was rright
Thomas Drakkonn: of course not...i killed them
Thomas Drakkonn: biiiiig pwerful mage
Willow Riverbend: Oh.. wait blaming it on those mercenaries... they were using arrows and fighting.. you are NOT blaming this on them.
Thomas Drakkonn: well....not as good as me...but he was tough
Thomas Drakkonn: he had a magic shield up...i couldnt even spell him
Thomas Drakkonn: i had to hit him.....a lot!
Thomas Drakkonn: and malame...she almost died

Willow Riverbend: Yeah.. and then you read the wrong scroll... *taps foot*
Thomas Drakkonn: i did NOT

Heh. *raises his hand looking guilty* I was at my fiancé's house, so didn't have access to "Jaeger". Glad you two had fun with that! (I know I did watching Willow's ghost berate Thomas! Hahah. Even in death he won't escape her.)
As a quick explanation, though, (so that I don't steal credit where it isn't due), the death system on Arkaz turns you into a ghost. When Thomas read the scroll, though, Willow was still in "limbo" so-to-speak before she was transferred to the Temp Death Area (at this point you can use the raise dead and resurrection scrolls to bring someone back, not before). So when he used the scroll, nothing happened. I didn't want his scroll to go to waste, so I resurrected you myself. And then you two had at it all on your own. If anything, I should be raving you two for giving me a good laugh.

That script was so much fun to implement. Terry tested the script with Star and Sonja quite a bit and it all seemed to be perfect. In ghost form you ..... well that is FOIG. There was one little bug, fixed now, that gave me a good laugh. When Star used her turn dead abliity, it turned living too. Made for a real good time in the crypts when the party she was with ran off in terror.

ROFLMAO!
Jenai was faced with the same dillema. Only we didnt have any scrolls so she floated out as a ghostie. Lost and alone in Arkaz she had to find her way back and return to her Paladin husband hoping he would not slay her on the spot.
"Corwin why am I a ghostie? I can not be a ghostie. I hate Ghosties! "*cries* " Fix me!" *Jenai throws a tantrum*
The player knew the death system all ready. Jenai had no clue and was terrified. It was great fun to Rp. Any who knows Jenai Knows mostly she is very brave. However becoming something she hates most was realy fun to rp.

Glad it's been entertaining for folks!! Thank you for the FYI that it's the game mechanic or next time if there is no DM around, I'd likely be in a panic *laugh*.
Thomas and I also wanted to take the time to give a bit THANK YOU to the DMs and the world createors of Arkaz.
My hubby and I have been very impressed with the variety of NPC characters we have met and challanged. It's been wonderful watching as sometimes the "bad guys" mulitply but sometimes there can be less and they are just tougher.
The details of the environment our characters live in and the just plain fun and relaxing atmosphere knowing anything can happen at any time. It amaze me how often I jump at my keyboard when some NPC starts talking to me.
I (Willow) don't develop code but interact with developers every day at my job as a support person for the software they write. I know it's not easy and am more than aware of the amount of time and patience and testing and coding and testing and coding and testing...etc, it can take.
The fact that there has been such a variety of characters, creatures, events, items, ......overwhelms and amazes us. Their work is greatly appreciated!!!
