We could even have shared MC roles, Lexy would be great at that.
Tsk, tsk... I drive to Louisiana and miss one event and Bruno's role as MC is already being phased out. :(
Never!

We all love our little right sized MC. With the potential for expanding that is being discussed IC and OOC I thought it may overwork our master scripter. Shame you missed this one too. Sonja would have never picked on you like she did poor Lexy.
I will second that. Bruno is the perfect MC. I know trying to organize things and MC, I stretched myself way too thin. So never again on that.

Just some ideas I had for the next festival. Expanding into a 2 day event over a weekend.

Proposed Festival of Nuvar Schedule

Day 1
1500-1700: Combat Tournament: Preliminary Rounds
1700-1900: Mage Tournament: Preliminary Rounds
1900-2100: Merchant Auction Day 1
2100-2300: Game Events (Dating Games, etc)
2300-0100: Formal Dance with bard music

Day 2
1500-1600: Combat Tournament: Semi Finals
1600-1700: Mage Tournament: Semi Finals
1700-1900: Fashion Show
1900-2100: Merchant Auction Day 2
1900-1930: Combat Finals
1930-2000: Mage Finals
2000-2300: Bard Performances

Different parts could be sponsored by different guilds, i.e. The Mage School sponsors the Mage Tournament, the Nuvar Guards sponsors the Combat Tournament, etc. Possibilities would be rather than 1 on 1 combat, teams or a battle royale for the tournaments.

I think it would be best.. this way also, if someone can't be there for 1 day, at least they might be able to attend on one of the other days.. this way no one gets excluded due to work, or RL occurances.

I'd suggest not splitting tournaments up too much. I have a horrible suspicion that you'll end up with semi-finalists/finalists who won't be able to make it IG for those rounds, which is a show-stopper at worst and anti-climactic at best.

So perhaps something like:

Day 1
1500-1700: Combat Tournament: Preliminary Rounds
1700-1900: Mage Tournament: Preliminary Rounds
1900-2000: Combat Tournament: Semi Finals
2000-2100: Mage Tournament: Semi Finals
2100-2130: Comabt Finals
2130-2200: Mage Finals
2200-2300: Merchant Auction Day 1
2300-0100: Formal Dance with bard music

Day 2
1500-1700: Game Events (Dating Game, etc)
1700-1800: Fashion Show
1800-2000: Merchant Auction Day 2
2000-2300: Bard Performances

I think that keeping the two tourneys as two contiguous blocks might be a better idea from a player time-commitment point of view. A player who wants to enter only one of the tourneys can then do so and only have to commit themselves to being IG for 3 straight hours or so, whereas with rounds of combat and mage tourneys alternating as in the schedule above, the same player would have to find perhaps 5 hours instead.

I figure you're likely to get more entries to the contests if it's possible to win them without having to devote close to 1/3 of a waking day to it. :)

I need to talk to some that have run these type of events. 2 hour blocks might even be too much. Not sure how long they run, as I have only attended one, and that was a long time ago. :D

Setting up different divisions for different character level ranges would probably be an idea too - pitting a lvl 30 PC against a lvl 10 is unlikely to provide much entertainment for anyone, contestants or audience. :)

In fact, if you wanted to keep the variety your schedule originally had, I suppose you could set it up sort of like this:

15:00 - 16:00: Combat Tournament, Novice grade
16:00 - 17:00: Mage Tourney, Novice grade
17:00 - 18:00: Combat Tourney, Intermediate grade
18:00 - 19:00: Mage Tourney, Intermediate grade
19:00 - 20:00: Combat Tourney, Expert grade
20:00 - 21:00: Mage Tourney, Expert grade

Which means that a) more PCs have a hope of winning glory, b) they can do so without absolutely needing to be IG for more than an hour or two, and c) my earlier point about keeping things contiguous becomes pretty much irrelevant and you can go back to spreading the fight events throughout the two days. :)
