Well apparently after a two hour meeting between the guy who interviewed me and his managing director they came to the decision that they couldn't justify hiring me until they've interviewed someone else, despite the fact that they thought I fit the company and the job perfectly, and didnt have a single bad thing to say about me.
So now the agency has to find them someone else to interview, and I'm waiting a further unknown amount of time

Wel the other guy had a phone interview this afternoon. The agency spoke to him and he said it went well. They havent however been able to get through to the guy at the company to find out his thoughts.
Hands up anyone who is surprised?
Noone?
Looks like I'll be around to DM this weekend

Forgive my relative inexperience (I've just taken a few college courses on business and ethics related stuff, no real world experience) but isn't that like, a HUGE conflict of interest? In fact we studied a hypothetical case kind of like this in business ethics. Basically the manager hired a client reccomended by a friend over those reccomended by the agencies they hired.Alphonse wrote:What a surprise.
A friend of the Managaing Director recommended them someone last night, they were interviewed this morning, and were offered the job this afternoon.
So I'm back where i started

I'm sorry but in business today, ethics normally do not play a roll. I've seens ton of cases proving that point.
Here's 1
I worked for a company that hired an outside firm to do a security audit...which is fine, you should hire someone outside the group to test. Well this company found some problems, which is normal, and in their report listed some fixes. Only problem is most of their fixes involved replacing some core equipment with a different brand which they sold. So the security company found 'Holes' which could only be plugged by switching over to their brand.
I'm sorry to hear that Al...I've been there so I know how you feel. I've been passed up for promotions so the new boss could hire a friend, or a friend of another mgr. It sucks.

I could not say it any better than the others have already. I know my business forces us to take all kinds of ethics training. Half the time I think it is just to CYA from a business standpoint. I have agrued the point that by the time someone is of age to be employeed that it is too late to teach ethics. It is something that is instilled in you during the time you are a child or young adult. Almost every sererio they give is so outlandish that it would never happen in RL. They look at things unfortunately as black and white and ignore the shades of gray. With ethics it is not black and white IMHO, it is right or it is wrong. A lie, no matter how small is still a lie.
