New Apprentice DM reporting:

The PC I've been roleplaying for a little over two years now on CoPaP is a psionicist. I am very familiar with (most of) the psionicist abilities. Thus, any psionicist wishing to be creative with their powers shall have full support from me.

I will also gladly entertain any creative use of other spells/feats/etc. from any player...within reason! :)

Regarding the two examples presented by Knightlight (note I am speaking for myself):

1) Telekinesis: If you are able to pin down an enemy with Telekinesis, then you have pinned him down, regardless of whether or not he's the "boss". However, if I really am that intent on having this boss give chase, don't be surprised if he uses an incredible brute strength (assuming he has such) to "break out" of your hold on him. Of course, this would be emoted, and while he's breaking free of your telekinesis, you've still bought your group time.

2) Banishment: Same thing. If it worked, it worked. But if you're dealing with a wizard or psionicist or creature possessed of magical abilities, then don't be surprised if that person/creature opens a portal within this pocket dimension you've created to escape it prematurely.

I've brought my little psimonk here... and well, it doesn't always take a DM to make him feel small and turn his ghost mode on ;)

I guess that since DMs (keep up the good work up there! :D) usually know who's in the party they can either drop a tell to a psion player that "you've got a strange feeling out of a sudden that you really shant strain your mind too much with that headache that's been haunting you for the last week" (err... maybe something shorter). No problem about that.

Blowing up Teh Evil Monstah a bit does the trick as well, and that's even better: a challenge, at last! A challenge, I said! Aaaargh! *eats dust*. Will save mod >50 or immunity do the trick. I've had telekinetically immobilised monsters get angry and dd to me to start swinging a few times already, too...

There's a slight difference between my main and Knightlights's Ji, though.
Mandaari's been running as a wis-based self-buffing (psi part) close combat machine (monk part) in his early levels, and there're hardly any "external" psionic powers on him at the moment. A bad guy's mind immunity won't hurt Mandaari that much, he'll try to hurt his foe the common way probably, if there's no more attracive way to move further at the moment. And he's more a monk than a psion anyway, so he's supposed to be good with that. Supposed, err...

No-psi areas? I've seen some, but I've got nothing against my char being reduced to a 12-lvl monk. No-psi areas are cool to rp... Imagine a cleric's link with his god being disrupted violently in an instant. A psion would probably start getting insane with his mind darkened - and now that's the challenge!
  • * So... if I get a clue how to behave either directly IG or by noticing by myself, it's allright.
    * If I happen to find the task harder as everybody else just because those're the illithid we're after, np. - it's even better :)
    * But if that's just me finding out a way to move further (opening a portal for everybody to evade a trap, dominating some of the bad guys to clapg my hands and command them to listen to some chill out music or what else) with the plot in a psay-way and blazam! we get some Teh Evil Monstahs pwn us as a punishment for my char being oversmart, because that was not supposed to happen, and those are no outerplanar beings that leaked through that portal I've opened, my feelings are hurt.
Anyway: DM locuta, causa finita. I've had a chance to be in a dm-guided party a few times here already, and I've loved it.
